Mr J Parkinson – CEO of St Thomas More Partnership of Schools
Mr Parkinson joined St Thomas More Catholic School in September 1989 as the Head of Physics. Over the years he has been Head of Science, Assistant Head Teacher, Deputy Head Teacher and was appointed to the post of Head Teacher of St Thomas More Catholic School in September 2005. During this time, the school converted from a voluntary aided school, initially to a single academy trust, and then in 2013 to a multi-academy trust. It became one of the first 50 Teaching Schools in the secondary phase and has been judged Outstanding twice by Ofsted.
Mr Parkinson still teaches A-level Physics and Psychology, but not at the same time. He is an active Ofsted Inspector and an Educational Advisor to the North East Regional Schools Commissioner. Mr Parkinson is also a Governor at Bede Academy in Blyth, which is part of the Emmanuel Schools Foundation.
As Chief Executive Officer of the St Thomas More Partnership of Schools, Mr Parkinson is responsible for the strategic oversight of the trust.
Mr J Thomson – Director of Finance and Corporate Services
Mr Thomson is the Director of Finance & Corporate Services and assumes the role of Chief Financial Officer for the Trust. This role is a technical and leadership role, ensuring sound and appropriate financial governance and risk management arrangements are in place, including the preparation and monitoring of budgets, and ensuring the delivery of the Trust’s statutory annual accounts.
He has been employed by the business since 2012 and has helped deliver the growth of the MAT and the conversions of its partner schools.
He is an accountant with 40 years financial, commercial, and general business expertise gained from working across a wide variety of business segments both within the accountancy profession and the private and public sectors.
As well as assisting and providing strategic financial advice to owner-managed and SME businesses across the North East, James has assisted the European Commission on business modelling scenarios, and has considerable sector specific experience in:
– Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) financial compliance rules affecting the insurance industry
– Operational finance issues within the NHS
– Foreign trade, including hedging tools for currency exposure
– Manufacturing, retail and leisure industries
– Professional services sector
Mr Thomson is married, with one grown up son, and has lived in the immediate area for almost 35 years.
Mrs L Saint – Trust HR Manager
Mrs Saint joined St Thomas More School in November 2004, initially as Training School administrator, Careers and Work Experience co-ordinator.
The school was designated Teaching school Status in 2011 and Mrs Saint became Teaching School Manager, working in partnership with an alliance of outstanding schools to promote and develop teacher training, Leadership Training, School to School support and Research and Development projects.
Since February 2017, Mrs Saint has assumed the role of HR Manager for the MAT schools. She is an associate member of CIPD and has experience of HR recruitment and employee relations from previous roles in management and Further Education.
Mr J Brand – Trust Facilities Manager
Mr Brand joined The Facilities Team in 2015. Mr Brand is responsible for the operational and maintenance of the estates’ assets.
Miss N Taylor – Governance Officer
Miss Taylor joined St Thomas More Catholic School in 2014 as Mr Parkinson’s Personal Assistant, prior to this she worked in Higher Education at Newcastle University. Since starting out, Miss Taylor has become more and more involved with School Governance; attending both Local Government Body and Director Meetings, ensuring the MAT schools are compliant with regards to their Governance arrangements, and acting as the main point of contact for STMPOS Governors. Miss Taylor is also part of the STMPOS HR and Payroll Team.
